“On 24 January religious leaders from around the world will gather in Assisi at the invitation of the Pope to pray for peace.

In his World Day of Peace Message of 1 January, the Pope also invited all believers to pray more intensely for peace. To help Australian Catholics to support the Assisi prayer gathering, the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council has prepared a discussion guide to the World Day of Peace Message.  We can all support this important gathering by reflecting on the World Day of Peace Message, and with our own prayers”, said Sandie Cornish, National Executive Officer of the ACSJC.

“The theme of the World Day of Peace Message for 2002 is “No peace without justice, no justice without forgiveness”.  It addresses the relationship between justice, forgiveness and peace in the light of international terrorism.  The ACSJC’s discussion guide to the message provides a brief summary of the World Day of Peace Message, some questions for discussion, and resources to promote prayer for peace”, she explained.

“Each year on 1 January the Pope issues a message for the World Day of Peace.  With the holiday period, it is easy for us to miss this important message.  That is why the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council has produced a discussion guide to this year’s message”, she said.

Copies of the discussion guide can be downloaded from the ACSJC’s website here.
