The Global Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation launched in Melbourne in 1998. Pope Francis told its recent gathering in Rome that the lack of concern for persons is a sign of regression and dehumanisation in any political or economic system. This is an observance initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1992 as a way for the faithful to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses. This year the theme is 'Amazement at what has happened'. Pope Francis says in his message: '[We] should [be] inspire[d] to speak openly of our human weaknesses and to address the challenges of present-day healthcare and technology.
