FROM THE OFFICE

Bishop Terry Brady
Social Justice Statement on Mental Health Launched
Launching the Social Justice Statement, Bishop Terry Brady said that “our society tends to push away or draw away from those who confront us with our frailties and limitations” but “this is not the way of Jesus”. He encourages us to follow Jesus by “drawing near to those who are experiencing mental ill health” and acknowledging that “they are members of the Body of Christ - ‘they’ are part of ‘us’!”

Social Justice Sunday Liturgy Notes
Social Justice Sunday is an official part of the liturgical calendar in Australia. Our liturgy notes, prepared by Fiona Dyball, provide suggestions for prayers of intercession, the choice of appropriate music, prayers and notes to assist homilists to make links between the readings of the day and the content of the Bishops’ Social Justice Statement.

PRAYER CARD

Prayer for Mental Health
A simple action that all of us can take is to pray. You can download a prayer card from the website of the Office for Social Justice. A file suitable for commercial printing is also available on request. The prayer to accompany the Social Justice Statement picks up its key concerns and assists us to place them before God.

Plan Ahead for 30 August
There is still time to plan your parish, school or organisation’s Social Justice Sunday activities.
