| Global Vaccine Equity Action
Bishop Vincent Long has spoken about the importance of a waiver of parts of an International Trade agreement to allow equitable access to vaccines for the whole human family. His comments come after a meeting of the Office for Justice, Ecology and Peace and other members of the Australian Fair Trade and Investment Network with Trade Minister Dan Tehan. Dr Sandie Cornish explains that waiving intellectual property rights for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic would overrule the usual 20-year monopoly on new vaccines before cheaper versions can be produced.

| Justice Worker Named Among Periti
The Office for Justice, Ecology and Peace’s Dr Sandie Cornish has been named as one of 20 periti or expert advisors to assist the Plenary Council.
Dr Cornish brings more than 30 years of experience in Church organisations and expertise in Catholic Social Teaching to the task. Other periti include Rev Prof Frank Brennan SJ, Dr Sandra Lynch and Rev Dr Patrick McInerney SSC who will assist the 280 members of the Plenary Council which begins its historic first assembly next month. The chairpersons who will lead a plenary session have also been announced.

| COP26 and COP15: Humanity's "Call to Action"
COP26 and COP15 are two critical international meetings of governments, civil society and business from around the world that will be integral to the world stopping the process of catastrophic climate change. With goals of securing global net zero emissions by 2050, securing funding and finalising how the Paris Agreement will be implemented, Christians are being called to raise their voices to decision-makers now. An online ecumenical webinar will be held on Friday 17 Sept, 5pm AEST, including Bishop Vincent Long and the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development is supporting the Catholic petition.

| New Resources Make Real Bishops Statement
John XXIII College in Perth has used new high-resolution posters and floor decals from the Social Justice Statement to bring it to students during the Season of Creation. The Bishops have also created personal video reflections on what Creation means to them in their life. Bishop Charles Gauci says, “I love to watch things grow. Whenever I can I recycle... I love to encourage by example.” These resources are two ways Janeen Murphy, Faith & Mission Director at John XXIII College, says that we can “educate and engage our community's commitment to ecological justice.” You are also invited to share your personal reflection.

| The Season of Creation Comes Alive in Adelaide
Peter Laffan, member of the Archdiocese of Adelaide’s Council for Integral Ecology, shares how the Archdiocese of Adelaide has celebrated the Season of Creation.
At the launch, Archbishop Pat O’Regan signed the National Park City Charter and speakers including John Lochowiak, discussed the theme “Earth as God’s Home for All – Hospitality and Habitat. The Council has also held a forum at Glenelg Parish deepening understanding of what it means to have a home for all. The Season of Creation celebrations conclude on 26 September with a prayer service in Belair National Park’s beautiful Mercy Grove for Migrant and Refugees Sunday.

| Parramatta and Sydney Dioceses Gather for Climate and Refugees
Despite a three-month lockdown, the Diocese of Parramatta and the Archdiocese of Sydney have both continued to work and advocate for the climate and for people seeking protection. Both Dioceses ran online launches of Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor and have been part of a series of meetings with local MPs, including the Minister for Immigration, Alex Hawke, calling for more refugee places to be given to Afghans fleeing the country. Online events will be held for Migrant and Refugee Sunday - one sharing the stories of refugees, the other a candlelight vigil for those who have died in Australian immigration facilities.

| 500 Participate in Mission: One Heart Many Voices
500 people have participated in Catholic Mission and Catholic Religious Australia’s Mission: One Heart Many Voices Conference, 2021. With keynote speakers Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr Bauman AM and Cardinal Tagle, as well as refugee advocate Craig Foster, the conference explored themes of personal encounter and living out the gospel in today’s world. It discussed the social issues of human rights, the treatment of refugees and people seeking asylum, climate change, the Uluru Statement from the Heart, making the Church a safe place for all and inclusive of people with disabilities. Recordings and notes from presentations are now available.

| Migrant and Refugee Sunday Parish Kit Released
The 107th World Day of Migrants and Refugees will be held on Sunday, 26 September. The Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office has released a parish kit available to all which includes prayers, reflections, general intercessions, gospel notes, posters and images to use. The focal point of the poster is an image of Christ which consists of many pictures of migrants and refugees coming together to form the face of Christ. This embodies the theme of Migrant and Refugee Sunday for this year, “Becoming an ever wider ‘we’”. We are reminded “God created us in His image, in the image of His own Triune Being, a Communion in Diversity.”
