Thankyou & Farewell
After 18 eventful years, John Ferguson is saying goodbye to the Office for Social Justice. "Over the years, there has been the occasional grand victory" he said, "but for the most part, what wins the day is the culmination of small victories by individuals and communities working tirelessly together, day-by-day for the good of all and with special concern for the most vulnerable."

Making New Ways
Bishop Vincent Long, Chair of the Bishops Commission for Social Justice, Mission and Service, pays tribute to long-time Director of the Office for Social Justice, John Ferguson, and outlines the Commission's new structures. The Office for Social Justice will continue to serve the Commission and the membership of the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council is set to be revamped.

Solidarity with the Philippines
Bishop Vincent Long has expressed the Australia Bishops' solidarity with the people of the Philippines in their struggle for justice, human rights and the rule of law at an online forum on Church People's Prophetic Stance Against State Terrorism, organised by the Ecumenical Human Rights Advocacy Network for the Philippines. He joined Church leaders in the Philippines in condemning acts of violence and terror that have escalated in intensity and frequency under the Duterte government's war on drugs.

Integral Ecology in the Spirituality of Catholic Social Teaching
Presenting at the Catholic Earthcare Convocation 2020, Dr Sandie Cornish said Laudato Si' challenges us to consider the truth of who we are before God, and in creation. If we want real and lasting change, we cannot avoid these deep-down questions that go to the heart of our spirituality. She went on to discuss the spirituality of Catholic Social Teaching and how Laudato Si' calls for a renewed anthropology and cosmology.

The aim of Anti-Poverty Week is to strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship around the world and in Australia, and to encourage research, discussion and action to address these problems including action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments. Events are scheduled all over the country and online.
