Laudato Si' Week Resources

Harrison Pocknee writes about the Laudato Si’ Week resources the Office has prepared. These resources focus on major themes in the most recent State of the Environment Report for Australia. Laudato Si’ Week will be celebrated in Australia between May 16 and May 24.

National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week

At the end of May, we will mark National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week. We draw your attention to ways you can get active in the reconciliation process.

Feast of St. Joseph the Worker

A video message from Chair of the Bishops Commission for Social Justice, Mission and Service, Bishop Vincent Long, and a transcript were issued on the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker on May 1. The focus of the message is sexual harassment in the workplace.

Social Action Course

This is the last call for our pilot program which aims to train leaders of movements for social and environmental change. The eight session program will help you to learn how to weave scripture and Church tradition into your action. You will also learn skills to make your action more strategic and effective. The program begins on June 27. We offer an outline of the program and give information on how to express your interest.

Justice for People on Low Incomes

The Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) has led a national campaign to urge the Federal Government to raise the rate of income support payments made to Australians on job seeker and some other payments. We update you on the campaign and the just released Budget.

EVENT

Learning about Catholic Social Teaching

If you have ever wanted to know more about Catholic social teaching, the Broken Bay Institute’s Catholic Social Teaching course might be just the thing for you. The Office for Justice, Ecology and Peace partners with the Institute to offer this course which runs for eight fortnightly sessions from June.
