Listen Learn Love: A New Engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Listen, Learn, Love

"We, Australia's Bishops, invite members of the Church to walk with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this year of great possibility."

Australia's Bishops have released their 2023-2024 Social Justice Statement - Listen, Learn, Love: A New Engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

This year, the Bishops invite the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council (NATSICC) to speak directly to us all. The Bishops call on us to begin a new engagement with Australia's First Peoples grounded in love and humility. It is their hope that we can build a civilisation of love through this new engagement.

"Just as the churches strongly supported the 1967 referendum, we hope that Catholics, along with other people of faith, will support the Yes campaign."
       - NATSICC

While they do not explicitly support a Yes or No vote, the Bishops encourage us to inform ourselves about the issues and engage in dialogue with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples about the referendum.

NATSICC has developed a website to help Catholics to learn more about the referendum and to participate in respectful conversations about it.

Use of the website resources is a key  action for parishes and schools to promote on Social Justice Sunday.
