Dreams for the Amazon & Asia Pacific
Pope Francis shared four dreams for the Amazon in his Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Querida Amazonia (Beloved Amazonia). These dreams are strikingly similar to the vision of the Federation of Asian Bishops Conferences for the Church in Asia. They also struck a chord with the dreams of First Nations people across Australia. Sandie Cornish asks: are these our dreams too?

Poverty in Australia Overview
According to the 2020 Poverty in Australia Overview by the Australian Council of Social Service and UNSW Sydney, 3.24 million people in Australia are living below the poverty line. They include more than one in eight adults and one in six children. ACOSS calls on government to boost growth in jobs, increase Newstart and Rent Assistance, and invest in social housing.

Global Concern for Human Rights in Iran
A group of Iranian Australians in Sydney have launched a petition calling on the Australian Government to take a clear stand against the violation of human rights in Iran since 15 November 2019 when security forces opened fire on peaceful demonstrations in about 200 cities and towns.

Escaping the 'Man Box'
Research on the attitudes to manhood and the behaviours of young Australian men aged 18 to 30 found that men in the Man Box (a set of rules, behaviours and stereotypes about what it is to be a ‘real man’) experience negative life outcomes themselves and they’re more likely to engage in behaviour that harms others.

Unplug, unwind, relax and do things other than using digital technology, electronics or social media for 24 four hours. The International Day of Unplugging is a great Lenten exercise. It begins at sundown on 6 March.

4 April – St Isidore, Patron of the Internet
Did you know that Pope John Paul II declared Isidore of Seville the patron of the internet in 1997? Isidore was a scholar with encyclopedic knowledge. In his writings he sought to collect, systematize and synthesise all existing knowledge. Check our online calendar for further information, and a prayer to St Isidore.

20 – 23 April - NATSICC Spirituality & Formation Retreat
The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council’s third spirituality and formation retreat focuses on building understanding of faith and spirituality from both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous perspectives. People working with First Nations Catholics in a Catholic context are welcome in addition to First Nations people.
