In 2019, Pope Francis instituted a new celebration – Word of God Sunday.
It aims to celebrate, study and disseminate the Word of God.
This year, the ACBC Office for Justice, Ecology and Peace has created two new podcast (https://anchor.fm/office-for-social-justice) episodes based on this concept.
Dr Sandie Cornish interviews Sr. Veronica Lawson on how her study of the bible has influenced her work for justice including her work on ecological perspectives. Sr Veronica talks about her study of the bible – and how she became one of the first female teachers of theology and scripture in the country. She explains how this changed and shaped her life and drew her to justice work, “It’s just part of me”.
Dr Cornish also spoke with Fr Khalid Marogi, the Director of the Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office on “Scripture and the Stranger”. In the episode, it looks closely at the gospel passage concerning Hagar in the book of Genesis. Fr Khalid shares his thoughts and reflections, and you’re invited to reflect with him.
